I recently attended the MidAm horticultural trade show in Chicago with my wife, Kelli. What a site to see. Other than the temperature remaining well below zero for our entire trip, we had a blast. While wandering around for a few hours in the maze of green industry companies spread throughout the convention center, we collected what seemed to be 30 pounds of magazines, product catalogs and brochures and spoke with many knowledgeable people. After that, we needed a break. The best part of the trip was the next day when we attended two seminars on green design and sustainable ideas for the landscape and built environment. One product that got our attention is a new container system for growing plants called Earth Boxes. We love new ideas like this. Another new innovation at the show got our attention too. The RainXchange system from AquaScape. According to the company, "It is a revolutionary design that combines a recirculating decorative water feature with a sub-surface rainwater harvest storage system." We are researching the installation details of this system and hope to offer this service to interested homeowners in 2009.
